5 Homemade Face & Body Scrubs To Tackle All Your Skin Woes

March has finally arrived! But it’s always one of those months where you never know what way the weather will go; the tulips are already blooming in London while snow is falling in New York. With all the temperature changes and shifting of seasons, your skin can really suffer. 

Rather than pointing you to pricy products and lengthy skincare regimens we’ve pulled together a collection of homemade facial and body scrubs using natural ingredients you’d have on hand and know will be safe and soothing for your skin

We recommend doing these scrubs once or twice a week for proper exfoliation. It will help rid your skin of impurities and dead skin to unclog pores, brighten your complexion and soften your skin texture so you can get your glow on. 


Flawless Facial Scrubs


1. Bye-Bye-Blackheads Lemon Scrub

Lemon’s antibacterial and astringent properties help to tighten the pores of the skin to reduce the appearance of blackheads. Combining this scrub with sugar will help you exfoliate at the same time, removing debris and dead skin cells.

Mix the following:

  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • 1 TBSP olive oil
  • 2 tsp pink Himalayan sea salt

How to use it: 

  • Apply the scrub on the areas to be treated and allow it to rest for a few minutes.
  • Make sure to use gentle motions, so as to not irritate your skin too much.
  • Rinse off with warm water and a clean washcloth.


2. Almond-Honey Scrub for Sensitive Skin

This scrub calls for almond oil, which is rich in Vitamin E that’s necessary for keeping skin healthy and can even protect against sun damage. Honey is one of our go-to’s for all-natural skin care due it’s antibacterial properties, high levels of antioxidants, and hydrating capabilities. For sensitive skin, this scrub is a savior.

Mix the following: 

  • 1 TBSP almond oil
  • 1 TBSP manuka honey
  • 2 tsp brown sugar

How to use: 

  • Apply to your face using gentle, circular, and upwards motion.
  • Let sit for 15 minutes before rinsing off with warm water and doing a final splash of cool water before patting your face dry.


3. Detoxifying Cacao Scrub

The skin of our face is constantly under attack from airborne pollutants. It may sound dramatic, but it’s so good to have a detoxifying scrub on hand for a weekly treatment to help combat all those environmental toxins we face. The antioxidants in the cocoa will help the detox process, and the yogurt will provide calming relief.

Mix the following: 

  • 1 TBSP Greek yogurt
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 TBSP cacao powder

How to use: 

  • Once thoroughly mixed, scrub into face and then let sit as a mask for up to 20 minutes.
  • Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

4. Simple Salt Scrub

The high mineral content of this scrub makes it an excellent antiseptic and toning treatment to help soften your skin. It’s so simple to make, we guarantee you’ll have these ingredients on hand. Make sure to not use this on delicate areas of the body such as the face, neck or décolletage. 

Mix the following: 

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup coarse sea salt

How to use:

  • Apply the mixture using circular massages paying special attention to rougher areas, such as knees, elbows, and soles of the feet.
  • If you have sensitive skin, opt for a fine sea salt for gentler exfoliation. You can also use a fine salt scrub variation on naturally softer parts of your body such as your arms, legs, back, and abdomen.


5. Anti Stretch Marks Coffee Scrub

Coffee grounds, applied to the skin, have long been used in the reduction of cellulite and stretch marks. While it’s not a guaranteed method, the caffeine in the coffee grounds is believed to increase blood flow to help even tone and texture. If you’re going to toss the grounds anyway, it’s a worth a shot to see what else your coffee can do for you. 

Mix the following: 

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup used coffee grounds
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

How to use:

  • This can get messy so we recommend applying the scrub while showering!
  • Halfway through your shower, turn off the water so you can apply the mixture onto damp skin.
  • Apply in gentle circular movements, focusing on areas of concern. Let soak in for 5 minutes, and then wash off.
