Challenge Yourself & Make A Change in 2018

We know we’re well past the resolution-making time of year, but it’s always the right time to look for new ways to challenge yourself and set new goals. You can make achieving those goals even sweeter by signing up for events such as cycling challenges, walk-a-thons, or even marathons that promote a charity of your choice. It’s such a rewarding way to get involved while celebrating and promoting your own physical health at the same time.

As you know, we’ve partnered with Ovarian Cancer Action (OCA) this month, and they’re all about getting active and getting involved in the fight against ovarian cancer. If there’s a cause or charity close to your heart, we highly encourage you to look out for local events or races that will give back to that charity. But if you’re looking for more ways to challenge yourself in 2018, OCA has rounded up some of the best events to get involved with this year in the UK. Whether it’s your first 10k, a trek abroad, or an epic nighttime cycle – there’s something for everyone. Check out all of their challenges this year (both in the UK and abroad) and find out how you can get involved.

Challenges Within The UK

1. Go Skydiving

Do you want to experience the unforgettable feeling of flying through the clouds at 120 miles per hour? Then take on a sponsored sky dive!


2. Women v Cancer Ride The Night

Due to the huge demand for participation in this iconic challenge, there are two challenge dates this year (5 May 2018 and 26 May 2018). The challenge is on to cycle 100km around London at night. The route will take riders past many famous landmarks including Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace and many more!


3. Vitality London 10,000

Take part in one of London’s most enjoyable runs! Starting on The Mall, you will run past some of London’s most iconic landmarks including St Paul’s Cathedral, Nelson’s Column, the London Eye and Westminster Abbey before finishing outside Buckingham Palace.



4. Ben Nevis Weekend Trek

Ben Nevis (Gaelic for ‘Mountain of Heaven’) is the highest point in the British Isles, standing at the lofty height of 1343m (~4000ft). Fort William, on the southern edge of the Great Glen and located on a sea loch, is our base for the weekend. This is a long, arduous uphill trek which will provide you with a wonderful sense of achievement when you reflect on what you have done. Available in June and August.


5. Hadrian’s Wall Trek

Challenge yourself to trek for charity along 25 miles of Hadrian’s Wall – one wall, one epic charity challenge in just one weekend! Available in July and September.


6. Prudential RideLondon 

The Prudential RideLondon is Britain’s biggest celebration of cycling, following a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside.


7. Simplyhealth Great North Run


The world’s largest half marathon is back for the 38th time this year! Join thousands of other runners from across the UK and take part in the iconic Simplyhealth Great North Run.


8. 24 Peak Challenge

24 peak
Challenge yourself to 24 peaks in the Lake District, all over 2,400ft with a target trekking time of 24 hours!


9. Royal Parks Half Marathon

Royal Parks
Starting and finishing in the stunning Hyde Park, you will join 16,000 runners to take part in the 13.1 mile route through Central London, taking in the spectacular sites of the capital and the beautiful Royal Parks.



Challenges Around The World

1. Great Wall China Trek

The China Great Wall Trek for charity is a fantastic five day hike along this awesome man-made structure. One of the best in charity treks, this challenge takes us over watch towers and mountains and through historic battlement stations that are well off the tourist trail. Dates are offered for May, September, and October.


2. Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Mount Kilimanjaro
Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest freestanding mountain in the world and also the highest mountain on the African continent at 5896m, is a magnet for trekkers and climbers the world over and one of the most impressive treks out there. Dates are offered in July and September.


3. Inca Trail Trek

The charity challenge begins in the Peruvian capital of Cusco – a fascinating city deep in the Andes, bursting with colonial charm. At an altitude of 3,300m, we’ll spend our first day acclimatising by taking a trek around the famous Inca sites surrounding Cusco. Dates are offered in August and November.


4. Women v Cancer London to Paris Bike Ride

Join a women-only cycle challenge from London to Paris and raise funds to fight breast, cervical and ovarian cancers. Dates are offered in September, October, and September 2019.


5. Women v Cancer Cycle India


Join an amazing team of women for an incredible 450km adventure in Rajasthan starting with a visit to the stunning Taj Mahal and finishing in the “Pink City” of Jaipur. Dates are still available in mid November.


6. Everest Base Camp

Take part in a trek to the foot of the world’s highest mountain, and, if you have enough energy, to summit Kalea Pattha (5,545m) – a mountain located near Everest Base Camp – giving us breathtaking views of this majestic peak. Dates are available in November.


7. Women v Cancer Italy

Experience “La Dolce Vita” for Women V Cancer, cycling from Italy’s fashion capital of Milan to the romance of Venice in three days. Dates are available in May 2019.


8. Women v Cancer Costa Rica

An incredible 360km coast-to-coast adventure across one of Central America’s most fascinating countries – Costa Rica. The challenge starts in vibrant Limón on the eastern Caribbean coast and finishes in the beautiful Playa Hermosa on the western Pacific coast. Dates are available in October 2019 and November 2019.
