  1. What’s the ethos behind Aurelia?

The brand essence that runs through the heart of Aurelia Probiotic Skincare is ‘Intelligent Skincare with Integrity’. Our ethos is about pushing the boundaries of science and nature and offering women natural, effective, probiotic-led products to deliver balanced, glowing skin from within.

  1. What inspired you to start Aurelia?

I spent almost 10 years working for global pharmaceutical giant GSK. I worked in many different teams on some incredibly exciting pharmaceutical innovations which will help so many. It wasn’t until I took on a role in The Dermatology Center of Excellence that I fell in love with skin and saw the very evident role inflammation plays in disrupting the skin. I had always had a passion for luxury skincare but couldn’t find one brand that ticked every box. It was then that I decided to change my career and launch a skincare brand on my own. I wanted to create products that harnessed the power of probiotics, used in a new way to manage inflammation, and delivered alongside formulations that were natural, ethical and sustainable.

  1. You mention the power of probiotics, and when we think Aurelia we immediately think ‘Probiotic Skincare’. Can you tell us what that actually means, and how probiotics work for our skin?

Our probiotic ingredients are advanced and work to calm the natural immune triggers in your skin which can be overstimulated by everyday factors like stress, pollution and UV exposure. We don’t use live bacteria or work on the skin’s natural microbiome, instead we work at a deeper level to increase collagen and elastin production, and ultimately make your skin glow. We were the first to pioneer probiotics in skin and the science remains unique to this day. You will see a difference in your skin in a week! We made a two-minute animation to ensure customers understand how our science works. Check it out here.

  1. What is the one (or two, or three…!) Aurelia products you can’t live without?

I’m going to have to say more than one! The Miracle Cleanser is amazing as it truly gives my skin the most beautiful cleanse both morning and evening. The texture is creamy yet light and it removes all makeup and impurities in one step, as well as gently buffing skin with the bamboo muslin cloth that comes with it. Next would be the Revitalise & Glow Serum which actually contains the highest concentration of our probiotic ingredients and is super lightweight, absorbing easily and counteracting dullness. We have two moisturisers – one for day and one for night – that hydrate, soothe and nourish the skin. The Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser is a particular favourite of mine for the stunning blend of Neroli, lavender, rose and mandarin essential oils to help relax at night time.

  1. As a mom yourself, what is your top skincare tip for moms and moms-to-be looking to take care of their skin, and their baby’s skin?

For mum: Your skin can get quite dry during pregnancy and after giving birth so make sure you use rich, nourishing products to help replenish your skin. The Cell Repair Night Oil is amazing for this, rich in botanical oils but not heavy or greasy, it leaves skin nourished and glowing. It can be easy to skip looking after yourself in the early days but taking the time to really treat yourself makes all the difference! The Botanical Cream Deodorant is an amazing aluminium-free alternative to antiperspirants, especially as during pregnancy so many women want to avoid this questionable ingredient.

For baby: Use gentle, natural products where possible to help nurture their skin. Avoid sulphates in washes as these can severely dry out delicate skins and can cause irritation and tightness. Another ingredient to avoid is mineral oil, unfortunately so often found in moisturisers for children, which leaves a greasy film on the skin and can trap impurities and bacteria, sometimes leading to irritation. So often these petrochemicals are found in product recommended for dry or sensitive skin but I believe skin needs to breathe. I would recommend products like our Little Aurelia range, which has a strict ingredients promise and is an absolute luxury to use on the most delicate skins.

  1. You’ve given us such great insight so far – and we just have one final question for you: what do you love most about your job?

I love the process of developing new and innovative natural products and having my own company gives me the freedom to have a challenging and rewarding career while being a mother. The sense of achievement is enormous and amazingly I will soon have a team of 15 who share my passion for Aurelia. It all started from a thought that was in my head which is quite an amazing feeling.
